How To Install New Honda Headlights

It's hard to drive around at night without spotting at least one car that's operating with a singular headlight, rather than a pair. Does that mean it's a good idea? Absolutely not. It is, in fact, against the law. If there's a headlight out on your Honda, before you get pulled over by the police, make sure that it's repaired/replaced. Though you can bring your Honda to a technician for servicing, some people insist on doing their own car repairs. As long as you have the know-how and all the tools necessary, why not?

If you want to do the repair yourself, here are some tips as to how to install new Honda headlights. These particular instructions are going to apply to a Honda Accord, but you can likely find an instructional video online that applies to your specific vehicle, if need be.

Instructions For Changing a Headlight on a Honda

(Remember to keep in mind that models will differ. This is a very general recommendation as how to change a headlight on a Honda Accord.)

• First of all, the hood needs to be opened. Make sure to release the hood latch/lever from the driver's side before attempting to release the hood latch on the exterior.
• From the headlight assembly’s rear, you can access the light bulbs. This might be tricky. Different Accords will have varying designs. You may not have access depending on the size of your hand. In many cases, you have to remove the air intake cover to access the bulb (in some cases it could be a tire or the battery that's in the way).
• The wires should be removed from the lightbulb courtesy of the connecting tab. The lower half of the tab should be pushed and pulled away from the bulb.
• Turning the bulb counter clockwise, remove the bulb. It should come straight out once it's unlatched from the assembly.
• In reverse fashion, insert and turn the new lightbulb. Try not to touch the bulb with your bare hands because it can decrease the lifespan of the bulb or damage it.
• The wires can now be reattached with the tab.
• Make sure the headlight is working before you hit the road.
